The Challenge

How can organisations create a supportive and dynamic work environment where employees can thrive?

Summary

As Singapore’s largest content creator, Mediacorp recognises and is committed to provide their diverse workforce with an environment where the entire workforce can thrive and excel together in the face of technology and AI advancement.
Mediacorp reviewed its Performance Management process in a bid to provide more clarity and structure to the performance reviews and conversations process. Through extensive partnership with business leaders and stakeholders, the organisation reviewed and strengthened various components within their HR Practices, with a focus on providing structure and systemic guidance on Physical, Emotional and Social Wellbeing for employees.

To achieve this, Mediacorp adopted a holistic approach that facilitates building a more resilient workforce and reinforces a conducive work environment where all employees can thrive in and fulfil their vision as Singapore’s National Media Network.

The Solution
Elevating Performance Standards through a Purpose Driven Performance Management Process
  • Mediacorp refreshed its Performance Management Process by collaborating with senior leaders, employee groups, unions, IHLs, and consultants, creating stronger synergies and highlighting employees’ daily contributions to organisational growth.
  • To reinforce performance excellence, Mediacorp refined out Goal Segments — a redesigned goal-setting framework that heighten the clarity between organisational objectives and individual contributions with a sense of purpose.
Forging Greater Communication through Continuous Feedback

To strengthen dialogue across the workforce (e.g. supervisor-supervisee and cross-functional/divisions), Mediacorp adopted a multi-modal feedback approach:

  • Performance Coaching Conversations introduced structure to reviews, enabling managers to deliver timely, focused guidance for better team performance.
  • As part of their People Managers’ development, Mediacorp conducted a Management’ Feedback Survey (180-degree feedback) where their teams shared feedback on leadership style and effectiveness.
  • Through their annual staff engagement survey, management practiced active listening and took steps to act on employees’ feedback.
  • Talent Engagement (to craft a passage) – talent and career development conversation at individual level.
Outcomes

There was a 12% increase in number of employees indicating that they are proud to be part of Mediacorp post-implementation.

8 out of 10 employees reflected that they are kept well informed about work related matters that impact them.

7 out of 10 employees are comfortable in voicing out ideas and opinions even if they are different from others.
