The Challenge

How can organisations empower individuals from diverse backgrounds to become skilled digital professionals who thrive in tech roles within the digital economy?

Summary

Temus is a Singapore-based digital transformation firm committed to building future-ready capabilities for the nation. Their mission is to unlock economic and societal value by driving digital transformation, and are guided by the belief that meaningful and sustainable change happens when people, technology, and process unite. As part of its commitment to nation-building, Temus champions a culture of lifelong learning and is dedicated to strengthening its Singapore core through an empowered and diverse workforce. By investing in talent development, the organisation supports and accelerates Singapore’s digital economy. They launched Step IT Up Singapore to address the growing challenge of sourcing tech talent in an increasingly competitive hiring market. Since inception, multiple cohorts have graduated into roles such as .NET developers, OutSystems low-code developers, and digital business analysts, contributing to Singapore’s digital transformation efforts. With AI and digitalisation rapidly reshaping the workforce, Temus recognised the need to create an alternative pathway into tech by hiring for potential, not just prior experience.

The Solution
Building a Pipeline of Multi-disciplinary Tech Talents with a ‘Place-and-Train’ Programme

Temus launched Step IT Up (SIU) in August 2022, supported by Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA) under the TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) initiative. This programme places people at the heart of digital transformation, equipping non-technically trained individuals with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy as full-time tech professionals. Their graduates come from various sectors like marketing, finance, engineering, arts & science, F&B, engineering, science, commerce, and retail.

Participants are selected after a logic exam and a series of interviews. Once accepted, they undergo rigorous training, including tests, projects, and certification exams while being supported through a robust mentorship program from Temus’ subject matter experts and a dedicated coach.
