The Challenge

How can organisations foster psychological safety around emotional and mental wellbeing in order to enable preventive intervention and reduce the risk of escalation?

Summary

Employee wellbeing has become a defining workforce issue in Singapore. A national survey in 2025 shows that nearly seven in ten employees experience work-related stress at least weekly, while around six in ten report symptoms of burnout. At the same time, only about half of employees feel adequately supported by their employer on mental health matters, pointing to a persistent gap between employee needs and workplace support. Recognising this shift, DHL Express Singapore embarked on a journey to strengthen mental and emotional wellbeing, with an objective to build a workplace culture for all to thrive, through the MEFIT (Mental & Emotional Fitness) Framework.

The Solution
A Holistic & Connected Wellness Ecosystem

MEFIT is an initiative designed to move beyond ad-hoc workplace well-being activities and adopt a more holistic and inclusive approach to supporting mental and emotional health. Recognising the role of both the organisation and individual in mental and emotional wellbeing, the initiative emphasises the contribution of each employee (“ME”) in taking charge of their mental and emotional “FIT”ness, supported by organisational systems and resources.

By providing access to professional support, encouraging personal well-being practices (through online learning resources, journalling and proactive wellbeing evaluation) and cultivating organisation-wide employee engagement, the initiative aims to build a connected ecosystem of care for all employees.

MEFIT Champions

The program also established a cross-functional network of MEFIT Champions trained in Psychological First Aid. These volunteers serve as approachable first points of contact, offering empathetic listening and guiding colleagues towards appropriate professional resources. This builds internal capability and peer support framework while reinforcing a culture of care and psychological safety to promote wellbeing.

Outcomes

15 Cross Functional Volunteers were appointed as MEFIT Champions since the launch

22.3% Program Sign-ups Spanning Across Functions over 4 months since the launch
